Managing Files on your iPad
This section describes the various ways to manage your files on BudgetInMind for iPad. We will go through the file manager view, how to create new files and use the wizard, and how to import/export your files to your Dropbox.
File Manager
The file manager allows to create, duplicate, delete all rename any file. A simple click suffices to open any file. You can also import/export your files to your Dropbox directly from this interface.
To open a file, simply click on the file icon. The file opens and is immediately ready for update or analysis.
BudgetInMind keeps track of the last opened file. Therefore when you launch BudgetInMind, the app will try to open the last known opened file.
If you want to change the file, you therefore need to close active one first. To close the file, click on the action button in the toolbar and select Profile. You will see at the top of the popup the name of the current file. Click on the close button and you will get back to the File Manager you first saw at first launch.
The File manager allows you to duplicate, erase or rename any file.
- To duplicate a file, click on the the Edit button in the toolbar, or press and hold a file to enter the edit mode.
- You can then select any file, and click on the duplicate menu button to copy your selected files. Once the copy operation is finished, the view reverts to the standard file manager view.
- To cancel, click Done.
- To rename a file, click on the filename you wish to change and alter its text
- To delete a file click on the the Edit button in the toolbar, or press and hold a file to enter the edit mode.
- You can then select any file, and click on the delete menu button to erase your selected files. Once the delete operation is finished, the view reverts to the standard file manager view.
- To cancel, click Done.
- To create a file, click on « New Document » or on the menu « + » button. Then select the template you wish to start from, and follow the wizard instructions.

Create a new file
Creating a new file is very easy with BudgetInMind. Simply click on « New Document » to open the template view. Select the template you wish to use, from a Blank template with the minimum required accounts to the most detailed account structure.
Several templates exist, and you should chose the one closest to your personal situation.
Once you select a template the Wizard open and you will be given the opportunity to customize the new account structure. First, enter your firstname, currency and year to set the minimum required fields. If you purchased the multi-user or multi-currency modules, you can create several currencies or users directly from this Wizard.
Next, create as many bank institutions as you wish, and for each bank, select the accounts you wish to have. If you don’t see the account you are looking for, do not worry you can always create any account within the application after the wizard completes.
Finally, you may enter additional information function of the template you chose, such as your company name for your wages, debts, or children names in case you want to follow specific spending accounts per child.
When you are done, press Create to create the file. The file opens and is ready for use immediately. You can alter the account structure if you wish, or change the file name by closing it and going back to the File manager.
Dropbox
You can directly import and export your files on your Dropbox directly from the file manager interface. To do so, you must first connect to your Dropbox account. You also need a valid network connection.
Click on the share button in the toolbar to connect to your Dropbox account. Enter your Dropbox email and password to connect. If it’s the first connect, Dropbow will create a BudgetInMind directory in the App directory of your Dropbox account.
For obvious security and privacy reasons, BudgetInMind only has access to those files in the BudgetInMind directory.
- To import a file from Dropbox, click ‘+’ button, to open the Dropbox. The view displays all files in the /App/BudgetInMind directory. Note that BudgetInMind documents must be zipped when uploading from your Mac to be visible and downloadble.
- Select the files you wish to download on your iPad, then click download. Once the download has completed, files are accessible in the standard file manager view. Click Done to get back to this view.
- You can also delete files on your Dropbox from this interface. Just select the files you wish to delete and press the trash button.
- To cancel a download session, simply click on the file you wish to stop the download.
- To come back to the standard view, clic l on the Done button.
- To send file to your Dropbox, click the share button on the file manager view and choose ‘send to Dropbox’
- Select the files to upload and click ‘Upload’. Once uploaded, the files are visible in the Dropbox view.
- To come back to the standard view, clic l on the Done button.
- If you would like to unlink from your Dropbox, click the share button, then ‘Dropbox Connection’ and ‘Unlink’.
Important: When uploading from a Mac, you must zip the file before sending it to your Dropbox. File must have following format: filename.dbim.zip. This helps reduce the size and accelerate upload & download. When retreiving a zipped file from your Dropbox to your Mac, just double click the zipped file to decompress it and open it with BudgetInMind for Mac. Compression/decompression is managed automatically on the iPad.
